I had big expectations for this production and the humour that is anticipated from all the characters in this warm, engaging, and faithful stage adaptation of the popular TV sitcom. I was not disappointed.
The story encapsulates much of the original show from the new Vicars arrival in Dibley, her affection for Chocolate and the ensuing love affairs.
The characters all brought the script to life with accurate portrayals of the crazy bunch of parishioners. The whole production ran with pace and kept the whole audience completely captured throughout.
Thank the lord for Vicky Lee, who was all things ‘French’ in the title role and even came with array of suitably unfashionable sweaters. Vicky was simply charming in the role and incredibly funny. The humour she brought was done so with impeccable timing that practically brought the house down. A first class performance.
A lot of the fun also came from the supporting cast; Alice Tinker was played by Linda Davenport was as barmy as ever and had some lovely scenes with love interest Hugo played by Craig Eccleston. Both characters really bounced off each other and again created some really funny moments and were a joy to watch.
Chris Wardle played Councilor David Haughton with plenty of stiff upper lip whilst eccentric cook Letitia Cropley was brought to life by Kate Burrow.
Reg Tolladay played dithering Jim Trott and pulled plenty of giggles with perfect depiction of Jim’s ‘no no no no no no, yes’ stutter.
The choir was a nice idea, ably led by Choir Master Simon Matthews who always manages to steel a scene or two.
I really liked the set and the simplicity that still had great attention to detail and I thought the lighting was timed perfectly to depict the two scenes.
Talented director Pamela Mien really pulled out every last bit of humour from the script and made sure the delivery was timed to perfection making it such a watchable and thoroughly enjoyable evening. I Absolutely loved this production, which provided a good belly laugh or two and had me laughing out loud all the way home.
