This was an excellent production of the iconic television sitcom by this very talented company.

There wasn’t a weak link in the cast, but special mention must go to Caroline Robertson, playing the part of new village Vicar, Geraldine Granger, The role made famous by Dawn French. Caroline was quite brilliant. Keith Teasdale was a suitably pompous parish council chairman, who couldn’t agree with the appointment of a female vicar, although the rest of his committee were more than happy about it. Green Room veteran, John Metcalfe, was well cast as the dozy council secretary, and all the other council members were well cast. Paul Hayton was a dithering Jim Trott, Jenny Pike played quirky Letitia Cropley, the council busybody and refreshment provider. Special mention must go to the two would be ladies men, Joe Desborough, playing Hugo Horton who had a severe crush on Verger, Alice Tinker, superbly played by Michelle Crangle, and farmer Owen Newitt, well played by Jason Munn, who rather fancied the vicar, herself.

The script was very funny, well written, and equally well delivered by the company. There were loads of funny situations and ‘double entendres’. The set, was split into two, we had the vicars lounge and the parish hall, side by side, very cleverly designed by Sarah Waters. To cover the scene changes, jokes between the vicar and the verger were projected on to the auditorium screen, a very good and clever idea.

Well done to new director Andy Wright, he had clearly done an excellent job with a talented cast. The set , sound and lighting were all good, well done to all concerned.

Thanks to the Green Room for a brilliant evenings entertainment
