In recent years this Society has enjoyed considerable success in performing adaptations of popular television shows such as “Hi-de-hi” , ”Allo,Allo”, “Fawlty Towers” and “Blackadder”. These shows have attracted substantial audiences who have not only demonstrated their approval through sustained applause but have continued to loyally support other productions staged by the company. I feel sure that the Directors involved in this production of “The Vicar of Dibley” were well aware of the challenges involved in presenting a TV show on stage and that plays of this type need good pace; indeed they highlighted some of the difficulties in the show programme. However, I am certain that the noisy drawn-out scene changes that occurred on the evening I attended were never meant to be a feature of the production but were probably the result of there not being sufficient people in the stage crew to execute the many changes smoothly. As a regular visitor to shows produced by this society, I know that audiences are not normally subjected to these distractions and I am sure action will be taken to ensure that such disruption does not occur again.  I must say that having served six years as a church warden in a country parish I found much to laugh at in this show, as did the large audience! I can understand the disappointment of the players and production team involved, for this was not what they intended, but they now have the opportunity to learn from this experience and get back on form. I wish them all well in their future endeavours.
