Having successfully presented, in past years, comedy plays based on TV successes, this company, now successfully staged three episodes of the funny DibleyTV series. The first was “The Arrival” – where the villagers discovered they had got a “vicar in high heels” – “The Engagement”, telling the tale of Hugo and Alice immersed in a four hour long kiss; and “Dibley Live”, when the village got its own radio station. All were nicely staged and raised many laughs as Sharon Bennett, playing Geraldine, attempted to bring order to her church flock of hapless misfits! And, goodness, what a lot of lines she had to learn as well for she was prominent in all three comedies, but carried the role off effortlessly. The cast all looked like the original TV characters and Ann Sutherland was really excellent as Alice, the innocent, but dim-witted Verger. The pompous David Horton was in the safe hands of Cliff Cuthbertson and, along with Richard Cook as his hapless son, Hugo, made a great comedy duo. Outstanding performances also came from Donald Fraser as the no, no, no, no, yes, Jim Trott; Frank Pickle (Alan Hunter) as the boring Minute Secretary; and Stuart Anthony as the earthy Owen Newitt. Completing the cast was Christian Gourlay playing dippy Letitia Cropley and Roddy Young as the Reverend Pottle. Yes, it was a night of laughter!
