The Three Town concert held in cabaret style round tables with candles played to a full house.
Compere was Irene Smith who glided us through the evening with informative notes about the songs and music. The Pianist was Nicola White, who played beautifully helped by Sam Redfern. Musical Director was Phil Boardman who expertly conducted the choir throughout the evening.
With a black tie dress code the evening opened with ABBA’s Thank You for the Music.
We were treated to over twenty songs and compilations so I will just pick out a few.
Amelie Hassouna-Smith gave us a great performance of Don’t Rain On my Parade from Funny Girl.
The Simon & Garfunkel section Sound of Silence was hauntingly good and Feelin’ Groovy and Bridge Over Troubled Waters by the Ensemble.
Jennie Heywood captivated us with Beauty and the Beast and the ladies looked to have fun with All That Jazz.
The first half was finished with a Beach Boys compilation.
The second half started with the whole choir’s rousing British Anthem Zadok the Priest by Handel. Also Don’t Stop Me Now had people bopping in their seats.
A highlight was John Matthias solo In a Bar on the Piccola Marina acted out as well as sung with great timing.
A lovely surprise was the arrangement of Sing a Song of Sixpence by John Rutter. Jean Forrester’s solo Vilia from The Merry Widow was passionate and sincere. Victoria Goulden showed us vocal dexterity with The Laughing Song from Die Fledermaus.
Three Towns also treated us to a little taste of their 2024 production of The Pirates of Penzance. Followed by O Holy Night, a Dance Medley and finishing with Sweet Caroline that the audience loved and joined in with.
An enjoyable Friday evening and thank you so much for the invite and hospitality from my guest Val and I.
