Rory Duncombe's set design was so right for this unusual pantomime theme. It afforded a suitable background for every scene and the lighting complemented it beautifully. The four-piece band was just visible behind the set; the musicians performed very well and were never too loud for the singers. There was comedy a-plenty to enjoy. many of the doubles entendres and puns were of French origin and there also many 'I say, I say, I say'- type jokes as well. The musical items were apt for this show and both the solo singing and that of the chorus was very pleasing. I particularly enjoyed the spectacle of Chris Ellis as Mme Gigi, Ross Stephenson, Becky Shingles and Hannah Toogood [the Three Musketeers], Helen Burberry as D'Artagnan and George Lee as the villainous Cardinal Richelieu. A good pace was maintained throughout. The dance routines tended to be simple but nicely executed. A vigorous pat on the back for the three ladies responsible for the lovely array of costumes. This was a most entertaining production. Well done.
