When teacher Thomas Rackstraw returns to The Penzance School of Music as the teacher of light opera, he is met by many enthusiastic female students, especially Rose, with whom he has a relationship with. But, with a school inspection on the horizon, the futures of his classes are in trouble.
This production, written by Bristol based Sarah Nash, uses the music of Gilbert and Sullivan but the lyrics are brought up to date which the sell out audience really enjoyed. Thomas was played by Benedict Powell who had a great singing voice and a good stage presence. He was supported by Helen Insau as Rose, a great find for the society as she also has an outstanding voice. Great support came from Cate Hulme as the head of the college and Lee Davies as George Corcoran, a teacher of real opera. Playing the caretaker was Lake Falconer and the role of the school inspector went to Ellyn Cruxton. Together with the seven students and dinner lady (Catlin Duff) the society put on a very enjoyable afternoons entertainment.
First time director James Ramsbottom and Musical director Miriam Ridgway should be pleased with the outcome.
Many thanks for the invite and I look forward seeing you all again soon.
