A group of fifteen society members, including five men, took this compilation of songs from well know musicals on a three night trip around the area and they were warmly welcomed by an appreciative audience on the second of their stops.
Most of the numbers were performed using music, the exceptions being some solos and small group items, with a simple piano accompaniment giving the cast the opportunity to show their skills in a good range of choral work. It was pleasing to hear a selection from West Side Story again along with music from shows including Mamma Mia, Sweet Charity and South Pacific. Also included were the inevitable Les Miserables and a Lloyd Webber selection.
If anything I did feel that the tempo of many of the numbers could have been increased which may have allowed performances to be a bit more dynamic. Diction was also a little bit variable. However there were some very good renditions of the selected programme and none more so than Ian Start’s version of Abba’s Slipping Through My Fingers – lovely. Kimberley Hall and Becky Todd excelled in I Know Him So Well from Chess and Just You Wait from My Fair Lady was well presented by Jane Bradley.
A very enjoyable evening.
