We are big fans of Gilbert and Sullivan and I think Ipswich must be a leading Company in East Anglia.A brilliant set met us at the start followed by beautiful authentic costumes and a faultless cast.
I have followed the career of two of the lads in this Society who go from success to success in the roles this time Mark Ellis plays the Sorcerer In the first play and Edwin in the second. Then there is Philip Tattersall as Alexis in Sorcerer who has been in the company for four years and never fails to please. Of course there are many favourite performers as usual all in excellent voice In Trial by Jury, popular Howard Brooks as the Judge, and it was nice to see Geneva Downes in the part of Angelina in this play. Always in excellent voice was Louise Cockerill as Aline and Lucy Parkes as Lady Sangazure. All the characters were great in both plays. There is always a great chorus in G&S who always manage to enter on stage in time and always contribute to and assist the principal performers.
I must congratulate Roy Preston on the enjoyment of these two plays and also Andrew Burke who leads the orchestra with support for the singers, never drowning them out.
I look forward to your next production The Gondoliers again at the Seckford Theatre in October.
Good luck with all the charity concerts G&S perform during the year, they are all well supported .
