New Writings The Shorts.
Dilys Guite Players, The Lantern Theatre - Sheffield
Quite different from other G&S shows as the music is not as well known. The characters were well cast, especially John Tattersall as The Sorcerer. The village drink a ‘philtre’ from the Sorcerer and fall under a spell which changes them, except Alexis, Aline and the Sorcerer, their ‘characters’ falling for the first person they see. Chaos ensues. Fortunately the spell is broken by Wellington Wells and all eventually return to their own characters. The Orchestra, conducted by Michael Williamson, were very good. To top all this the scenery was excellent - a bright castle which was specially designed by Gerry Armytage (built by him and the Crypt Committee). Keep up the good work.
