The Sorcerer is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s least performed operetta, which is a shame as it has lots of humour and the songs are lovely. I always enjoy “My name is John Wellington Wells” and I wasn't disappointed with Stephen Hollinghurst’s version. He performed it extremely well and his enthusiasm throughout the performance was enjoyable to watch. I loved the second half of the show when everything started to unravel. The quintet performed by Jess Squire, Brenda Wood, David Hippard, John Beasley and Jim Smith was lovely. It was nice to see Jim in a very different role for a change. Once again it was great to see such a huge cast manage on a relatively small stage and they had some very young members who were included throughout and they were so cute. To learn G&S at such a tender age will hopefully mean that it will stay with them forever. The choral work was strong and the harmonies came across very well. Thank you for your hospitality Kington, and for the most enjoyable evening. Well done.
