It is always a gratifying experience to visit my young friends Kids On Stage from Walkerville Musical Society, knowing we are going to enjoy their performance. They have a collective ethos of wanting to learn and to do their best in performance and our visit on the 26th October was not in any way a disappointment. Their enthusiasm was infectious.

I know from recent conversations that the Society is facing problems with continuation and volunteers and the burden falling on the shoulders of the few. Not the least of which was news of an accident suffered by another long-serving member on the day of the show!. There’s luck; and then there’s bad luck!.

We had some too, as the traffic was bad enough to make us late and unfortunately, we missed the first scene.

However, all that aside, we were treated to the Society’s own take on The Snow Queen, loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen story we all know and love. With an impressive cast of well over 40 children, there were some stand-out performances; Jazmin Mill as Nana, Lucy Bennett as Heidi and Elyjah Edwards as Kris. Well supported by Jess Bennett, Julia Moran, Jayden Baird, Jonah Nugent, Ella French, Jack Vincent, Laila Hopper, Angus Nugent, Tosin Babatunde, Lavender Elphas, Lynette Lawson, Sophia Lephard, and Kaylee Roll.

A very colourful chorus of Snowflakes, Flowers and soldiers completed the ensemble. All very good in their parts. (But don’t wave to your audience, or take a bow after your song…).

The scenery and backcloths were also extremely colourful and apt, as was the choice of music, - performed with gusto; especially the solos. Well done Gareth. Congratulations to Joan and the whole Team, you should be very proud of your result.

Thanks for the invitation and apologies for our lateness at the start. Also thanks for the hospitality, my companion and I enjoyed our visit. We look forward to your next production.
