It is Panto time again! "Oh Yes It Is", Pantomime has become a quintessential part of our Christmas and as usual my first one of the season is St Matthew's Theatrical Society. This year thay have chosen "The Snow Queen", what a refreshing change from the usual Pantos we see year after year, but this one had all the necessary ingredients required.
The Icy Diva, the Snow Queen herself, (Sarah Bowler) portrayed her character perfectly, one young man (Zac Swift) made a magnificent Jack Frost, he was aided and abetted by Mince, Nathaniel Hyde, a gay henchman) and Brooke Inglesfield as Meat. The evil Queen wanted these three to steal all the Christmas presents.
There was Price, (Leah Paige-Hirst) half of the Fisher and Price Toy Shop and his lady friend Holly Berry, (Holly Mason) they sang beautifully together. Of course no Pantomime is complete without a Dame, this one was Mary Christmas, (Drew McCloskey) his outfits were to die for all of them decorated and trimmed up to look like Christmas. Buddy the Elf, (Joseph Sinpson) had a great rapport with the children in the audience. Fisher, the father of Price and the second half of the Toy Shop, along with Pappa Elf and the two Christmas Tree Fairies completed the line-up of principals all giving creditable performances.
The musical numbers were all Christmas related, a really good set lit with lots of fairy lights and of course snow. The costumes throughout were fabulous right down to the footwear. Just the right amount of audience participation, playing to a capacity audience everyone had a jolly good time. My sincere congratulations to all involved.
