This mystery was cleverly thought out by talented member Shaun Ford, having six possible suspects to the fatal stabbing of prima donna Casilda Coppit, nicely played by newcomer Maria Wheeler. Beautifully set in the Barnstableford’s home in 1888, the atmospheric drawing room was designed by Nicola Taylor and constructed once again by David and Maya Goddard. Very good costume from all together with sympathetic makeup and hair styling. Graham Payne kept us on our toes putting us off the scent. He also ably doubled up as host Oliver and the Inspector questioning suspects and taking questions from the audience. Regretfully I missed the vital clue getting it completely wrong! The culprit will not be divulged – this will remain The Mousetrap of Little Common. Accompanist and Impresario Roberta Pompini played by Elisabeth Doust, gave me the impression she was not what she seemed! A strong performance from Lyn Ford as Hostess Alice, with not quite satisfied with her lot, younger sister Mary well portrayed by Natalie Smith. Jac Young came across most convincingly as Hattie Batstone, jealous mature artiste and sang Oh for The Wings of a Dove rather well. Ken Duce as bumbling Retired Major Arthur Day added a touch of comedy. Regretfully, the introduction was missed being performed from behind the curtain whilst the audience, seated in cabaret style, were a little noisy with their nibbles. A worthy evening’s entertainment from all involved and included an interval Mastermind Quiz.
