I soon realised we were in for an interesting evening when we were greeted by “Mr Boo” at the entrance to his nightclub. Adlington Community Centre had been transformed into the premises of  a “seedy” establishment with members of staff in various flashy outfits and resident musicians. Drinks were supplied before curtain up and the scene was set for an excellent night of entertainment. We were soon introduced to various characters, an alcoholic mother, a shy diminutive daughter and the larger than life neighbour. The set was excellent! It never ceases to amaze me how the local designers,  set constructors and stage crew manage to build and operate in the confines of such a small space. Lighting and sound were also very special in this production. This play is beautifully written by Jim Cartwright and any actor worth their salt can see what the author requires at the first reading. As there is a wealth of talent in this company it came as no surprise that there were some splendid performances tonight. I was particularly impressed with the three female actors Liz Blundell as Mari, Sadie (Fabulous character) Debi Winnard and lovely Lily Blundell in the title role of Little Voice. The overall atmosphere was enhanced by three excellent musicians who were an integral part of the production and the wardrobe department has ensured that all the characters outfits are  pertinent to their individual roles. Director, Jane Harrison must be congratulated, bringing  out  all  the various emotions and nuances required in this very emotive production.

All involved ensured we had an evening to remember especially as I had the opportunity to have a game of Bingo at half time. Thank you for your very warm welcome to my wife and myself and I look forward to my next visit.
