Congratulations to LAMA Youth on their first production and what a show it turned out to be! The content was chosen by the young people themselves and while it presented them with many challenges, the final effect was quite breathtaking. ‘Oom Pah Pah’ made a great opening, which the company approached with great attack and impact. I particularly liked the slightly different arrangement of ‘Hard Knock Life’ from the junior cast and ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ by the senior cast. ‘We Go Together’ by the full company was another particularly lively number. The Les Mis medley to end the first act was particularly well put together with good soloists and an exciting sound. The second act started off with ‘Razzle Dazzle’ then a particularly effective version of ‘New Music’ from Ragtime. I loved the Jersey Boys sequence, as did everyone else in the audience! I also thought that Connor and Callum’s ‘Why, ‘Cause I’m a Guy’ worked really well. The evening finished with ‘Star Maker’ with the whole company producing a tremendous sound to bring an exciting evening to suitable end. The small band provided a very varied and effective accompaniment. The staging was simple yet most effective and it was good to see many of the youngsters introducing the next number. Lighting and sound were both handled very well. Congratulations to the cast on their achievement (I am already looking forward to next year’s show) and also to the many adults who facilitated it.
