The show opened with the Pied Piper, excellently performed by Emma Clothier,  introducing us to the story, followed by a lively opening number featuring the chorus in a rendition of ‘The Happy Inhabitants of Hamelin’ written by The Musical Director. In this number and throughout the show the chorus, children and young dancers were well-drilled and disciplined, performing with good projection, enthusiasm and lovely big smiles! The costumes were fun, and the chorus work in the background during the dialogue of various scenes was interesting and authentic without upstaging the Principals who were then gradually introduced. Without a doubt the star of this particular production was Michelle Shepherd- Ede who was a sheer joy to watch throughout. The dame (Daryl Jones) quickly endeared herself to the audience with some very topical jokes, and Harry, her son (Sam Kirkwood) rapidly engaged the audience with his likeable personality. Donna (Sophie Shepherd), the love of Harry’s life, consolidated her entrance with their first love song which was beautifully sung. The wicked King Rat (Garry Spight) with his two side-kicks Scally (Alexei Hawkey) and Wag (Craig Harbor) provided not only the evil side of the show but also immense amount of humour from the latter two. The Mayor (John Carroll) and the remainder of the principals all gave good support to this happy show. This pantomime was well written and well directed by Janet Webb and the small orchestra played with great musicality. One often fails to remember others who make such a difference to a production.  The Back stage crew who work so hard to make a difference, the costume department, Bryan Mercer on sound, Harry Leisk on lighting and the props department and many more who all gave of their best.  It was a delight to watch a pantomime which appealed to all ages.  Well done.
