The Phantom of the Opera which opened on the 9th October 1986 is one of the West End’s longest running shows, and now the rights are available for youth companies to perform. A big challenge for any Youth society which this one met with supreme competence.

Alex Cooper as ‘Christine Daae' is only sixteen years old with a superb singing voice and formidable stage presence. Playing opposite her was Oliver Keeling as ‘Raoul’, strong and powerful vocally and artistically and confidently matched with Christine particularly in their duets. The trio was made complete in these mammoth singing roles by ‘the Phantom ‘played by Alex Cook portraying the part brilliantly with extraordinary vocal skills and characterisations.

Other principals who made a big impact in the show were Ollie Hart-Bradford and James Bastable as the joint theatre owners ‘Messieurs Andre' and Firmin’ respectively who played their roles with great accomplishment. Holly Mills was a convincing opera diva in the role of ‘Carlotta’ and her male counterpart ‘Ubaldo Piangi’ was played well by Owen Bradley. Helen Sanders was a bossy and forceful ‘Madame Giry’ and Shannon Lee played her ballet dancer daughter ‘Meg Giry’ with beautiful grace and movement as did the other dancers of the Corps de Ballet. The quality of the rest of the supporting players added to the production, with every member on stage fulfilling their character with superb individuality

Special praise goes to the whole production team Steve Richard and Zoe for delivering musical theatre at its very best with an innovative set, imaginative effective lighting and sound clarity together with an array of stunning costumes. All underpinned by a superbly well balanced sixteen-piece orchestra showing off magnificently Andrew Lloyd Webbers music and sumptuous melodies.

Many congratulations and thank you for your warm welcome and kind hospitality.
