The Panto of the Opera Ribchester Amateur Theatrical Society Panto in February? Oh no it,s not! Oh yes it is! Either too late or too early? Not a bit of it. My first visit to the R.A.T.S. of Ribchester turned out to be a real pleasure. My first impression was how little space the performers would have to work with but with some excellent direction and staging they succeeded admirably. Based loosely on the “Phantom of the Opera” story, the cast’s enthusiasm was obvious from the opening number with some delightful characterisation. What a delight to see so many talented teenagers on stage who showed such potential. Isobel Austin as Christine has a beautiful voice and with some help with acting skills will blossom into a female lead of the future. Robert Taylor as E.A. Pushpimple has a natural talent for comedy and never strayed from his character(s). It was soon obvious the company has some experienced members, Sue Cronshaw and Steven Johnson, who were instrumental in keeping the whole piece moving with pace, so essential with Pantomime. Lighting, sound and costumes helped to make this show the success it surely is and Jane Flynn and Katie Farnworth, Director and Producer are to be congratulated. I look forward to my next visit.
