This was a very funny play with a well furnished set. It did get off to a rather a slow start with a few prompts but this was the first night and I'm sure the pace picked up in the other performances. Good accents were used. Natalie Beams and Stephanie Huxley were ideal for the leading roles. Olive and Florence were such different characters and they made you feel for both of them as they tried at first to get on together but with Olive's untidiness and Florence's desperate need to have everything in its place, it was always going to be difficult if not impossible! Very good performances from both. The meetings in Olive's apartment to play Trivial Pursuit were great fun - the other ladies were all typically American as well but quite different characters and they all brought just the right atmosphere to these gatherings. The two brothers (Chris Matthews as Jesus and Andy Bennett as Manolo) were priceless in the best possible sense! Such good acting and fascinating accents made for two excellent performances. Everyone was dressed appropriately and the set design was ideal and everything that needed to be done by the backstage staff was handled well. The programe, as usual, was well laid out with good use of colour. The Haven Players are fortunate to have members who can seamlessly transfer from plays to Cabaret type entertainment to Panto - a real asset to village life. Many thanks to Director Susan Beck.
