This is a new adaptation of a well-known Agatha Christie story. It is sometimes hard to translate this to the stage but with the inventive use of the lighting behind some intricate cut out panels it was easy to tell when we were seeing the current discussions or the action being discussed. Clever scenery and quick changes of props were very well thought out by Director Ian Stead, Stage Manager Richard Goswell and crew along with Lighting & Sound Glynn Pringle & Stuart Sprowell.
Joanne Edwards as Miss Marple brought her character to life, unravelling the story and revealing the murderer. A bumbling Chief Inspector Craddock (Richard Hunt) clearly needed her assistance in solving the murder of Heather Leigh (Noreen Armitage). There was a complicated family connection between film star Marina Gregg (Sarah Smith) the maid Cherry Baker (Pheobe Newman) and the co-star Lola Brewster (Emily Wheeler), Marina’s husband film producer Jason Rudd (Andrew McDermott) and his assistant Ella Zielinsky (Aby Law) added to the suspect list. The murdered woman’s husband Cyril (Pete Forsyth) had some lovely comedy touches without saying anything. The sinister butler Giuseppe Renzo played by the Director Ian Stead was a very good red herring.
All the cast created excellent believable characters and it all made for an enjoyable evening.
Congratulations to Director Ian Stead and well done to all concerned.
