A concert performance of “The Mikado” was a lovely way to spend a winter’s afternoon. The story was narrated by Janette Clough and Vi Hurdley and moved along at a good pace. The three little maids, Yum Yum (Phaedra Nicholls), Pitti Sing (Jane Souter) and Peep Bo (Kim Currie) blended well and the chorus numbers were enthusiastically sung by an articulate and tuneful cast.  The acting honours, singing, and getting the most out of every line of libretto belonged to Pooh Bah (Julian Souter). Thoughtful delivery, raised eyebrows and a twinkle in the eyes - Julian didn’t miss a trick!

Nanki Poo (Stephen Harper), Pish Tush (Mike Rawlings) and The Mikado (Mac Hammond), Ko Ko (Mike Richards) and Katisha (Sue Rawlings) completed the line-up.

The piano accompaniment helped the action to flow and “Merry Madrigal” and “Here’s a Howdy Do” were just two of the delightful items in the score. An enthusiastic audience showed their appreciation at the end of the performance and certainly Tettenhall Operatic Company always deliver an entertaining show and send the audience out of the theatre in a happy frame of mind and looking forward to the next show.
