This was an enjoyable performance.  Traditional  G & S,  with a lot of contemporary touches that all worked very well.  The opening scene with the men in Lounge Suits,  and  three mini skirted maids,  and later, a Mikado in `Super Trooper` boots, certainly livened up the proceedings.

Throughout the company singing and acting was strong.  It was impossible not to sympathise with Mike Tebbutt`s understated droll portrayal of Ko-Ko, and Mike McGhee was pomposity itself as Pooh-Bah.   Nanki-Poo (Les Plimbley)  and Margaret Blackmore (Katisha) sang most impressively.    Rhia Fingerhut  as Yum-Yum, was  a pleasing  leading lady,  and her trio  with  Helen Blatch (Pitti-Sing) and Jenny Smith (Peep-Bo)  in `Three Little Maids`  was  harmonised well.  Gordon Fletcher as Pish-Tush supported the principal line-up.   The cameo highlight came from Paul Blackmore as The Mikado,  a zany OTT performance that was the icing on the cake.

Good costumes, and a cleverly designed set, together with a consistently good orchestra completed a good production.
