~~This rather dark comedy explores the relationship between three sisters who gather together for their mother’s funeral using their life experiences to do this.
The interaction between the characters was well handled although I thought, at times, that the characters were too similar and not always representative of their stories. Having said that the cast worked really hard on the difficult scenarios they depicted. I was particularly impressed by Fran Richards as Catherine the daughter who didn’t conform to the traditional family values of the other sisters. The relationship between Mary (Rachel Holmes) and her mother Vi (Dawn Vigurs) was well developed through dialogue between the daughter and her dead mother. The third sister (Theresa) played by Shelley Jennings showed us someone living on the edge and having difficulty coping. There was good support from Dave Brown (Mike) and Stephen Ralph (Frank).
There was a well constructed and effectively lit set. It must have been a disappointment for the cast that there were so many empty seats in the auditorium.
Well done to everyone involved!
