What a wonderful end of term sharing by Emerald Company who had worked with Director Sarah Osborne to present their interpretation of ‘The Many Lives of Roald Dahl’. The young people had considered the varied occupations of the story writer from his childhood against a backdrop of world events and created a presentation for their parents and friends to celebrate the end of term. This group of 6 – 11 year olds captured Dahl’s creativity and ambition whilst interspersing their story telling with excerpts from Dahl’s own masterpiece ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. The actors transitioned swiftly from one story to the another playing both the characters in the autobiographical story and in scenes from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. They gave the varied characters strong voices and it was good to see the progression and development from their last piece at Christmas. Without using microphones the young people were clearly heard. The movement around the stage was strong, but the young people also maintained their stature when speaking.
Utilising appropriate music as a backdrop to the movement and wearing simple ‘day clothes’ in complementing colours this piece demonstrated the work which all the young people had committed to over the past few months. Some of the company will soon be moving to other groups and others have only recently joined the group, and with their varied levels of experience they showed team work and support to each other.
Congratulations to the Company along with the Production Team for their hard work, energy and enthusiasm in bringing this lovely story to life.
