Billed as a musical celebration this concert was packed with 39 songs from thirteen different musicals including South Pacific, Phantom of the Opera, 42nd Street and Sweet Charity, and certainly had something to suit everyone’s taste.

The company were all well dressed throughout and the stage was simply dressed, adequately lit and the sound quality was very good.

The main soloists, Laurence Chadwick, Pete Johnson, Stephen Shield, Kathy Bevan and Jennifer Rouse, all gave confident performances and weren’t afraid to “let their hair down” in the more light hearted numbers, in particular during “Saturday Night Fever”. The production included some small ensemble numbers, solos and duets, and many members of the company were given their opportunity to step into the spotlight; it was apparent to the audience that everyone on stage was enjoying being there. The movement in the production numbers was performed with conviction and the singing in the full company numbers was particularly good; a special favourite of mine was the a cappella version of “Everything’s Alright” from Jesus Christ Superstar, it was superb.

It was an honour for me to present long service awards to Jennifer Rouse, Kathy Bevan and Anne Newland, many congratulations.
