The old adage “the show must go on” became a reality for the Lyric when at the Dress Rehearsal Ryan Peacock, who was to play Cosmo Brown, broke his ankle. Luckily Director Craig Pike was able to take on the role and an excellent job he made of it too! Ben Drane as Don Lockwood was in top form giving a note and step perfect performance. Ailsa Davidson, in her first principal role with the company, gave a stellar performance as Kathy Selden. Joanne Smith, as the dumb blonde Lina Lamont, was a joy to watch and listen too – every time she spoke the audience were in stitches! Strong support was given by Andrew Begg (R F Simpson), Gavin Davidson (Roscoe Dexter), Angus Mackintosh (Mr Dinsmore) and Cath Munro (Mrs Dinsmore). The company singing and dancing were excellent, especially in the Broadway Melody and Singing in the Rain finale numbers. The 18 piece orchestra under the baton of Ewen A Ritchie made a wonderful sound which at no time overpowered the singers. I have been going to shows by the Lyric for over 25 years and this must be the best yet. Well done
