The society’s youth section came to the fore in bringing their considerable stage talents to two shows whose content were vastly different from each other. First up to perform were the 7-11 year olds with their presentation of the tale set under the sea, where we watched the story of Ariel the Mermaid unfold. We were treated to a beautiful and colourful world under the sea where we found the cast playing a myriad of underwater sea creatures - mermaids, flounders, crabs - aided and abetted by seagulls and humans! The costumes in this section were quite outstanding and brought a blaze of colour to the production. All the youngsters were really wonderful with special mention to Olivia Black (Ariel), Catie Riding (Sebastian), Georgina  Middleton (Ursula), and Louis McGregor (Flounder). But everyone played their very best to make this section a success. Next up, were the 11-16 age groups presenting Stephen Sondheim’s version of the fairy tales. Now, at the best of times, this show is a considerable challenge for adults so imagine how difficult it can be for very young people. However, this young cast admirably coped with the intricate tongue twisting lyrics and difficult musical arrangements and brought off this junior version with great composure and self confidence. Sadly, space does not allow me to mention all the cast names but, be assured, their personal stage performances were second to none. These two sections of young people thoroughly deserved their applause at the conclusion of each of their efforts.
