The Little Mermaid Jr

The Disney classic, ‘The Little Mermaid’, was the latest offering of the youth section of PODS.  This time, at a new venue; Dinas Powys Parish Hall.  I was greeted warmly by everyone at PODS as always, and I was very impressed with the projections that filled the room to give the audience the feeling of being ‘under the sea’.  Very clever and innovative.

I’m going to start this report by saying that there were some significant sound issues in this production.  The show started late owing to technical difficulties with the sound and unfortunately, they were never fully fixed.  This was a real shame for the young performers who had obviously worked so hard on this production and it did mean that the audience lost a lot of the dialogue and singing throughout the piece.  Nevertheless, the young people of PODS did a great job.  Hopefully they weren’t too aware of what was happening out front.

Meryl did a lovely job as the little mermaid herself, Ariel.  She had a great character and she certainly looked the part!  She sang well and you could hear a pin drop in the audience during ‘Part of Your World’.  Well done, Meryl!

Ollie played the legendary character of Sebastian.  Ollie tried hard to master the well-known accent, made famous in the movie version.  He had a nice character.  Good job!

Lillie and Annie did a lovely job as Flounder and Scuttle.  Two great performances.  Well done.

Amy was a really great baddie as the sea witch, Ursula.  A great character and real stage presence!  Well done!

Leo and Harry were a brilliant double act as Flotsam and Jetsam.  Very funny.  Well done.

Prince Eric was played by Isaac and he gave a nice performance.  He sang well and had a good character.

I really enjoyed the comedy value from Clara as Chef Louis.  One of the real highlights of this production for me!

There are simply too many characters in this show for me to write something about everyone but rest assured, you were all fabulous and should be very proud of yourselves!

I loved the energy and enthusiasm from everyone on stage and your enjoyment shone through for us all in the audience to see.  Keep learning and having fun!
