"Having not seen a pantomime for many years, after attending the opening night of The Little Mermaid I think I have been missing out, as this was a thoroughly enjoyable, fun evening at the lovely Kirk Theatre. The production was excellent, and had all the elements you would expect from this genre, with the scenery and costumes being of a high standard, a great job by the director Luke Arnold. The cast had obviously worked very hard with all the principles giving really enjoyable, fun performances. Marcus Burnside, as the "Dame" was hilarious, with Stephen Temple as "Baldrick", Danielle Long as "Prince Stefan", Courtney Brown as "Marina", Anna Wrench as "Lord Chamberlain" and Alice Rose as "Heidi" standing out, with the chorus team providing convincing acting and singing. It was obvious that the musical director Clive Wass had worked hard with the company resulting in good singing performances, unfortunately however, the orchestra had some unsteady moments and were too loud on occasion. The choreography was of an extremely high standard, the dancing teams provided by the Sarah-Louise Ashworth School of Dance, from the youngest to the oldest, were faultless with the choreography really complimenting the whole production, well done Sarah-Louise. A really good opening night, well done to all.
