The Minerva Juniors brought the much-loved Disney musical The Little Mermaid vividly to life in an engaging and confident youth theatre production. Based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen story and the well-known Disney film, this colourful musical was presented with energy, commitment and a clear sense of enjoyment from the young performers. It was particularly encouraging to see how the company continues to grow in strength. Many of the young performers demonstrated increased confidence and stage presence, clearly benefitting from their experience with the group over recent years. Principal cast members successfully handled the demands of singing, movement and characterisation with maturity and assurance, and with a very supportive ensemble showcased the depth of talent within the company. It was also great to see new members joining in on the fun of this fantastic hobby. Their performances blended well with the more established members of the cast, creating a cohesive ensemble that worked effectively together throughout the show. This balance between experienced performers and newcomers is a real credit to the company and its creative team.

Under the direction of Eleanor McKay, the show moved at a good pace and told the story clearly, allowing the young cast to shine while maintaining the structure and flow of a full-scale musical. Musical direction from Michael Anthony Allan supported the performers well, while the choreography by Carolyn Anderson was well suited to the age group, adding visual interest without overwhelming the performers.

Overall, The Little Mermaid was an enjoyable and uplifting production that highlighted both the talent and the ongoing development of The Minerva Juniors. It was clear that this is a hard‑working and supportive youth theatre company, offering young people valuable opportunities to build confidence, skills and a love of performance. It was once again a real pleasure to get the opportunity to present some well-deserved NODA awards. Well done!
