Not having seen the musical version of The Little Mermaid before I was really looking forward to seeing BYT performing many well-known songs.
The colourful scenery really helped set the scenes along with some slick scene changes by the backstage crew ensured the production had good pace and flow. Enhanced as always by the wonderful costumes they ensured everyone could really get into character and perform at their best.
Eva Phelan was the beautiful Ariel and David Morrison the handsome Prince Eric, both bringing experience and great stage presence to their performances. Andrew Morrison played a comedic Sebastian. Lucie and Shire C were Scuttle and Flounder respectively. Grimsby was played by Gethin Randerson, Flotsam by Casey Michaela and Jetsam by Livvy Owen who really reacted well together when on stage. King Triton was played by Alex. Other named parts of Aquata (Lola Swoffer) Andrina (Daisy Wright) Atina (Lucy J) Arista (Cerys Worthington) Adella (Sophie T) Alana (Sophie Ashford) Chef Louis (Luke) Pilot (Finn H ) Winward(Ava Jones) Leeward (Anna) were supported on stage by a large ensemble of twenty eight super talented youngsters all enjoying themselves performing to the appreciative audiences. I could not finish without giving a special mention to Shorouq A who gave a wonderful performance as Ursula enhanced by the spectacular costume.
Some of the standout numbers for me include, Under The Sea, Poor Unfortunate Souls and Kiss The Girl. I also really loved the finale.
Luke and Maddison were listed as production assistants, what a fantastic opportunity to develop their skills. I was sitting next to Luke in the auditorium and I whitnessed how emotional they both were on the night I attended.
Many congratulations to the production team Vivienne and Chris, who by putting the large cast rigorously through their paces have successfully bought together wonderful energetic dance numbers that utilised the casts mixed abilities to enhance their performances and fantastic musical numbers that I feel, filled the audience with joy.
TheThe Little Mermaid is most definitely the best BYT production I have seen to date, it was absoloutly brilliant, such an entertaining special show. Well done you should all be immensely proud of this achievement.
