This was an excellent youth production, with all the energy and enthusiasm of the cast cascading into the audience from the start.
The four children who find their way to mythical Narnia through the wardrobe were very well played. Ryan Yates as Peter, and Charlotte Rowland as Susan were excellent. Harvey Tavener as Edmund their younger brother was very convincing and Skye Maguire as the younger sister Lucy, was delightful. She was a joy to watch. The first creature we meet in the magical world is Mr Tumnus, convincingly played by Caitlin Oldham. Giving a robust performance as the White Witch, Millen Scrivener was very strong vocally. I liked Jake Truman and Molly Parkinson as Mr and Mrs Beaver, polished performances from both, and what good make-up! Lenny Antwi was very well cast as Aslan the Lion, and handled the songs superbly. One of the many highlights of this thoroughly entertaining musical was Harvey Latter`s mad cap cameo of Father Christmas.
The whole cast, from the dancing Robin, Emma-Jane Peel, the menacing Maugrim, Finlay Dilks, the animals, all wonderfully costumed and face painted, to the grim Rabble and the Woodland people, deserve great credit for giving the audience a show to remember.
A super set by Roydon Charlesworth and the excellent costumes by Victoria Garavan, complimented by hair and make-up by Gemma Riley, together with a great band, all helped to enhance a youth production with a cast all under the age of eighteen.
