Three beautiful sets, good props, lovely costumes and a Lady Bracknell who struck fear into the hearts of the cast and audience alike. What's not to like?? From the laughter of the audience and the loud guffawas from the gentleman sitting behind me Director Martin Groves brought out the very best of this well known Oscar Wilde story.
David Stone in the lead role of Lady Bracknell was very much the "English Matriarch". Articulate, imposing, never missing an opportunity to express an opinion and dominating every scene with his personality. Rod Bissett in the role of Ernest and Lee Davies as Algernon bounced their lines, and cucumber sandwiches, off each other and Phebe Jackson as Gwendoline was pretty and articulate.
Martin Groves avoided the trap of making Lady Bracknell seem like a pantomime dame and David Stone displayed all of his acting skills. A strong supporting cast with no weak links the Grange Players again maintained their reputation for presenting the very best in dramatic theatre.
