'The Hollow' is a wonderful murder mystery that provides all you can expect from Agatha Christie. It's set in a country house on a weekend. As always, most of the guests become suspects.
Ok, one hand that opened a door by the glassless frame and one more rug that would have dampened the footsteps, are picky in the extreme, but that merely underlines the quality and authenticity of the impressive garden room set. A framed copy of Christie’s country house above the mantelpiece was a nice addition. Costumes, lighting and sound all added to the atmosphere.
This was a well directed piece by Melanie Brown, with the characters moving in, out and around the scenes with great timing. As one door closed another opened, as the story unfolded and we understood the relationships between them. I cannot single out any characters, because all were equally well played, to create the atmosphere and intrigue that had us guessing the murderer, right to the end. I liked the static picture at the close of the play which gave us time to appreciate all the characters once again.
As the saying goes, one successful performance should sell the next and that must be true of Norbury Players’ ‘The Hollow’.
