This is a well written story based upon the old-age problem of parents involving themselves in their childrens 'playground spats.' It is quite a dark comedy as the relationships between husbands and wives and the two families begin to unravel. It was well directed and performed but for my taste it left too many unanswered questions at the end. I like to have things rounded off but if you like to interpret things for yourselves then it would suit.
A cast of only four means that the action has to be well paced, and in this case it was. It was interesting watching Neil Horne (Michael Vincent) as he demonstrated perfectly that it isn't just words that are important. His body language and facial expressions spoke volumes about how he felt. Leanne Brown (Veronica Vincent) gave a perfect portrayal of someone who is far more interested in global matters than she is about her family. Robert Meehan (Alan Riley) switched seamlessly between the bored father and the business man in control whenever his mobile rang. Rebecca Holmes (Annette Riley) was ideal as the subservient, sickly wife, that is until she had rather too much to drink. There were so many hidden skeletons in the cupboards that I lost count. Well done to all four actors.
There was a well designed and constructed set which was carefully lit and all sound cues were spot on.
Thank you to the front of house team for making me so welcome on the night I attended.
