In October 1963, a small group of people met in a flat in Stechford, Birmingham.  From this meeting sprang the Birmingham Savoyards, an operatic society dedicated to performing the works of Gilbert & Sullivan.  So I was delighted to be invited to their 50th anniversary production and they celebrated in style.  Written by member Robert Mead this concert told the story of how Gilbert & Sullivan meet and all the operettas they wrote until Sullivan’s death.  Narrated by Geoff Barnbrook who brought the story to life.  Robert Mead and Mike Harding as Gilbert & Sullivan gave outstanding performances.  The Ladies and Gentlemen of the company sang excerpts from all their operettas many in perfect four part harmony.  I enjoyed the solo performances lead by producer Janet Davies.  This one off concert was an outstanding success for Birmingham Savoyards.

After the concert Karl and myself were invited to attend a buffet to celebrate the society’s 50th anniversary.  Thank you Angela and Janet for the invite and here’s to another 50 glorious years.
