The Full Monty

Opening Night! What a great start to the week. The cast well-rehearsed and word perfect, the set stunning and well managed, the costumes very appropriate (even the thongs), sound spot on and the lighting on que throughout and importantly at the end. I loved the choreography as it captured the era perfectly.  Congratulations to the producer Alan in bringing his passion production to an appreciative audience.

Our 6 main gentlemen were so well cast each bringing an individuality to their roles. A troubled angry Gaz (Nathan Forsyth), his best friend the insecure cuddly Dave (Kenny Cathro), the nerdy suicidal Lomper (Jack Horne), the social climbing ex foreman Gerald (James Callachan), the disco dancing misnamed Horse (Douglas Smith) and last but not least the confident well-endowed Guy (Robbie Smith). It took courage to do this show and I’m sure nerves were present but all the audience saw was great acting, enjoyment, laughter and an ending that brought the house to its feet. A special mention must go to Charlie Grogan who played the part of Nathan (Gaz’s son) for the display of professionalism amongst such a great cast.

The supporting cast were equally well matched and all joined in the fun playing a variety of roles from bar manager, wives, civil servants, stepdads, thieves, sisters, stripper and drunken ladies. Sometimes the smallest role can add the greatest impact and should never be undervalued, you all deserved the applause at the end. To Ruth, Vicki, Rebecca (the wives) and John, Neil, Brenda, Heather, Sue, Alan, Rachel, David and Cath, I give my congratulations and well done all.

The overwhelming impression from this show was the excellent standard of all the performances and production. What a team effort and praise must go the members of Abbey Theatre for bringing another great production to the stage in Arbroath.
