“The Full Monty” is a show well-known for the inclusion of a group of guys taking their clothes off as a way of making some money, but there is so much more to the story line of this musical. It’s about how ordinary men (and women) have to face up to the many problems generated when a recession occurs and unemployment takes hold - these include poverty, marital stress, relationship difficulties, aimlessness and lack of self-esteem, to name but a few. Under the direction of Rob Barclay, assistant Jen Sands and producer Christian Slingsby, the production team for this show responded magnificently to the many challenges. As well as the construction of a raised level of stage providing accommodation for the musicians, it also allowed for some set pieces to be performed at an elevated level. In an attempted suicide scene the stage crew even managed to manoeuvre a car on to the stage! The sets were of an extremely high standard with a wonderful effective lighting plot. This was a well-cast play with the actors delivering first class performances, particularly impressive was Rob Callaby as Jerry Lukowski, Lucy Allen as Pam Lukowski, Stuart Bull as Dave Bukatinsky and Audrey Young as Georgie Bukatinsky. Choreographer Clare Allen devised the dance routines which were both varied and inspirational. Full marks to the male strippers for having the courage to bare their all! This was an excellent demonstration of the vast amount of talent contained within this company. Congratulations to all who were involved in this powerful production which attracted capacity audiences.
