The script, for the Farndale Comedies are very cleverly written by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr. They all feature hilarious takes on well - known classics and The Hall Players had decided to choose this famous Shakespearian tragedy as their first production of 2018. We in Britain seem to find mistakes and failures as humorous and the two playwrights have written this series of plays to appeal to our sense of humour.
Having said that, many of tonight’s audience were initially, not too sure about the accidents and technical difficulties occurring but soon realized that this was very much a ‘ skit ‘.
This is a very difficult genre to perform and congratulations must go to Producer, Paul Armitt and his entire cast and technical team. The set played an important role and the lighting and sound were critical in this particular production.. Appropriate ‘props’ had been particularly well researched and there were some hilarious surprises as a ‘severed head’ and ‘ blow-up’ body fell from above. The costumes were very effective. The experienced Maureen Nickon as Thelma, playing Macbeth, had the bulk of the dialogue, which she delivered with great aplomb, keeping a straight face when sometimes all around seemed chaotic. The whole cast worked so well together some of whom, doubled up roles and diction and projection from all was excellent.I enjoyed the three witches, Diana Jackson, Bridget Sanderson and Kym Ratcliffe. who cackled their way around the stage. Dominic Swarbrick as the Celebrity Adjudicator, George Peach engaged the audience in banter between scenes whilst Carol Buckley as the eccentric Mrs Reece tried to keep everything under control, without much success. The capacity audience certainly enjoyed the evening and appreciated all the hard work that had gone into making this a successful team effort.
Thank you for your warm welcome..
