Not having known or heard anything about this obscure show was probably a good thing as I observed it with welcome interest. 10 out of 10 to this Company for always giving something different a chance on stage. There was an evident pride in their achievement and enthusiasm throughout the cast. The lively introductions to the principal cast members were perfectly presented by the flamboyant Director, Ronnie, leading into a colourful and sunny opening number. 'That Summer Day' duet was captured harmonically with sad undertones by Lennie and Sarah. They also produced a lovely Act 2 duet. If I were to admit that there  had been a note of 'corny' or 'cheesy' during any point of the show, it was only because it was appropriate and quite funny really....which I'm guessing is what the writer fully intended. The prim Poppy played her flirtatious role very well and succeeded in raising the odd eyebrows and rosy cheeks during the proceedings. Myrtle sparkled as she raised the roof with the ladies chorus in 'It Could Be Love' and her versatility was later revealed during the passionate 'Only You Will Do' duet and shoe shuffle with Ronnie. 'The Sunshine Stroll' with the Company was, just that, but very smartly became a very clever costume change on stage for the entire company during 'Everyone Is Talking'. Wally played and sung his role as a somewhat likeable and naïve school boy type character, giving gusto to 'The Spotty Boy'. Odd song, but well sung!! The poignant finale arrived with 'The Sun Going Down', as the Company sang about their nostalgic take on the reality of their Pier show venue becoming a Picture House and recognising that people and situations constantly  evolve.

Thank you everyone for another entertaining and educating visit to Dumfries.
