This Pantomime “ The Emperor’s New Clothes” was written and directed by David White and I was looking forward to seeing something new.
The curtains opened to reveal an excellent set and as the evening progressed each scene looked splendid. I must congratulate the designers and construction team who obviously take great pride in their work.
The opening number by the Ensemble was first class. Movement and vocals were so good and it augured well for the remainder of the show. We were not disappointed as each number performed by the Ensemble throughout the evening, was excellent
We were soon introduced to the principal characters and all were of a very high standard. I particularly enjoyed Beth Tildesley as Harrison Tweed and Lauryn Parker as Princess Rose. They were never out of character and sang their numbers well.
Silly Billy, Nathan Benson soon had the audience on his side. His energetic performance was loved by all but especially by the younger members of the audience.
Matt Clark as Peggy made the most of his “Dame” character. His comic timing was excellent.
All the children in the audience loved the silly antics of Lewis Hampson as Neil and Rhys Jones as Fred, who both gave very physical performances.
Paul James and Siobhan Edge showed their obvious experience in their roles of the Emperor and Stilton and Carole Unitt was suitably menacing as the Demon Queen and proved to be a good foil to Sarah White as The Fairy of the Forest. All on stage must have been delighted with the outfits they wore and the Costume Department must be congratulated.
Everyone on stage appeared to be enjoying the experience. David White, Director and assistant Director, Sarah White, must have been so pleased that their obvious hard work had borne fruit and Choreographers, Nathan Benson and Kerry Chippendale provided some simple but effective numbers. I was very impressed with the choice of music, which was enjoyed by all ages. Musical Director, Judith Oakes, must be gratified, that the vocals were appreciated by all in the audience.
Lighting and Sound were very effective and complemented the performances on stage.
This evening was another success for this talented Company.
