Our first introduction to our evening’s entertainment came from Lucie Nash’s Director’s notes in the programme. She prepared us with promises of a ‘wild’, ‘unpredictable’, ‘gloriously chaotic’ evening’s entertainment. We were informed to be prepared for something completely different - and - that audience interaction should be anticipated.
Well it was an absolute hoot – and the pace never faltered. The Narrators started the proceedings, settling us, the audience, into the thrust of the evening. They were confident, and although individually talented they each worked as a well oiled team that clearly knew how to communicate with an audience.
The pace was comfortable, there was humour, confidence and it was clear that everyone on stage was totally engaged in what they were doing. This was so important as I’m sure a fair number in the audience were unlikely to have in-depth knowledge of the whole of the Bard’s work (including me). Those doubts would have soon vanished because the young team on stage powered through the whole evening with confidence and obvious joy.
The audience participation was magic - every member of the audience followed the call – acting on the clear instructions from our players on stage.
My initial instinct was to name individuals – particularly in relation to the comedy involving the speeded-up replay of Shakespeare's complete list of work and the copious amounts of water that had a starring role. However, it was such a massive undertaking that centred on the whole team, everyone on and off the stage deserve congratulations on its clear success.
The sound was excellent, the lighting perfect. The props were great and the wardrobe fabulous. Everyone on the stage and behind the scenes were imperative to the success of this wonderful production. Finally, sincere thanks Lucie Nash, Director, and her Assistant Director, Gemma Conway for such a meaningful and happy experience.
