Chris Davies`s debut as Director gave us a very slick and polished production.
Not many murder-based plays tell who the murderer is so early into the story, but this clever play by Philip Mackie bucked the trend, going on to show the downfall of the offender.
Simon Paget was outstanding as the overpowering arrogant and devious Peter Ashbury, giving an excellent portrayal, with a very wordy script. Sue Orme was Mary Ashbury, his down-trodden, bullied wife, also delivering a most effective performance, which was well balanced against her husband`s aggression. Playing their well-to-do alcoholic friend Charles Barcher, Martin Illston was completely believable, a wonderful performance, and Claire Wade as Liz Barcher added to the quality of the production. I liked John Freeman as the quietly effective Inspector Fowler. Completing this quality cast, Chris Davies, was convincing as the lovelorn neighbour Gavin Cole, along with Marjorie Howarth as Nora, and Callum Rodgers as Sergeant Bassett.
Playing to a near full house this play was certainly an excellent platform for the Marlowes.
