The Upstagers are the 11 to 16 years youth group of Horncastle Theatre Company. This play by Timberlake Wertenbaker, which tells the story of Cinderella inan unusual manner, posed quite a challenge to the youngsters. It's rather a 'wordy' play and admittedly some needed the odd prompt, but on the whole the actors did it justice. Among other notable portrayals were Ella Waters as the Wicked Stepmother,  Jennifer Hughes [Princess Zehra], Josh Lincoln as Prince Amir and Tom Pavey as Paul. I enjoyed Envysnake's alliterative lines and Harriet Head's assured performance in the title role. The rest of the named characters, together with the spiders and trees of the forest, played their parts with confidence. The stage hands worked well to transform the Old House into the Dark Forest and also Princess Zedra's Palace. One of the boys coped manfully wih the lighting and the costumes were really pleasing. It is good to see these young performers achieving such good results.
