I had never seen this musical comedy before and given the effort this young and enthusiastic cast had put into the production, I was not disappointed. The show is based on the characters featured in the American cartoon, ‘The Addams Family’, who retained their affinity for all things macabre. Jamie McCaw made a fine Gormez, and was joined by Claire Foster as his beloved wife Morticia whose ‘Tango De Amor’ was excellently presented. Andrew Welsh gave a highly entertaining performance as a singing and dancing showman, Uncle Fester who, with the female Ancestors, brilliantly performed the numbers ‘But Love’ and ‘The Moon and Me’. Nic Duthie provided the ultimate ‘Princess of Darkness’ - Wednesday, in love with the ‘normal’ Lukas Beineke ably played by Lewis Mitchell, with Ian Riddell and Ashleigh Gold as his parents Mal and Alice. Mark Kent was typecast as the misfit Lurch and Melissa Reilly and Skye Thorpe performed well as Grandma and Pugsley. All the principals blended with the Ancestors and the costumes and make-up all enhanced characterisation throughout. Musical numbers were well choreographed and although the numbers were not well known, they blended into the story and were presented very well by the entire company.
