From the opening curtain, this talented company got the audience hooked. Although not large in number, this company certainly knew how to provide a great evening’s entertainment.
The plot of the show tells us how Wednesday Addams falls in love with Lucas Beincke. How will the Beineke’s, your average American Family, get on with the Addams family and will the two lovers finally marry. And, will Fester ever get to meet the love of his like, The Moon.
Craig Carlon and Hollie O’Sullivan played Gomez and Morticia Addams and they lived these roles to the full. They worked so well together and kept their accents throughout the production. The roles of their children, Wednesday and Pugsley were played by Emily Paine and Alex Bates. Great casting and you could tell that they were really enjoying theirselves and their roles. Uncle Fester (Emily Stephens) was so funny and this role could have been written for her. Her song ‘The Moon and Me’ brought great applause from the sell out audience. Great support came from the remaining principals, David Cooper as Grandma, and James Ellis as Lurch. How James managed to keep his balance on those stilts is beyond me.
The Beineke’s, the normal American family, were played by David Stead as father Mal, Laura Ellis as Mother Alice and Olly Clark as their son Lucas. All played their roles well and I really enjoyed Laura’s portrayal during the last scene of the first act, ‘The Game’. Add in the five ancestors and you have a great cast.
Musical Director, Annette Bird, created a great sound from the company and we were treated to some good choreography from Alex Bates. Directors Craig and Emily should be very proud of this production.
The set worked well on the Highbury stage and costumes looked good from an audience point of view. The sound level was good and you could hear every word from the stage. The set was well lit and gave an appearance of a spooky house. The backstage crew worked well as there were quite a few scene changes but they covered them well.
Many thanks for the invite and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
