Two different worlds were about to collide at this. Will love triumph, or will everyone go home vaguely depressed?
The superbly cast ‘Family’ were, without exception, fabulous and well directed by Chloe’, whose vision managed well to incorporate the large number of cast as Dancers, Ancestors and Festers friends. Sadie gave the choreography a lively modern feel as did the costumes and wonderful makeup effects. Chris Corcoran as musical director completed the talented production team.
I must commend the ‘Family’ on their performances, their characterisation never faltered (even though I’m sure they wanted to laugh out loud many times).
John Morrison was brilliant as Gomez and there was no mistaking the on-stage chemistry with Lily Moore playing Morticia, with her movement purposefully inhibited in the beautiful tight dress until ‘Tango De Amor’.
The part of Wednesday Adams was played by Meg Donovan. I often think this role would be on many a female musical theatre performers bucket list and on this occasion, Meg gave a superb memorable performance and I can’t quite believe this is her first principal role with BMTC.Her secret love interest Lucas was played well by the talented Stuart McDiarmid, who I felt was well suited to this character.
Andrew Morrison was great as Pugsley, the audience laughed out loud at “Pulled”. I would also like to mention other notable performances from Viv Morrison who played the wacky Grandma.Lisa Colvin-Grieve and Phil Snowe as Alice and Mal Beineke, I absolutely loved the setting and content of “Full Disclosure”.
In every production I see, there are always one or two characters that, from the audiences’ point of view, almost steal the show, from the moment they set foot on the stage to the moment the curtain closes. Both Lewis Doley as Uncle Fester (who was in love with the moon) and Randy Johnson (as the larger-than-life Lurch) ensured that the audience were truly entertained.
When speaking to some of the cast and production team following the performance I shared my comments that I feel The Addams Family was one of the best BMTC productions Iv had the pleasure of seeing to date, congratulations and be proud as it was so good.
Finally, did everyone go home vaguely depressed? Oh no we most definitely did not … when you’re an Addams, the whole production was a resounding triumph from start to finish.
Thank you for inviting me once again, absolutely loved it.
