The Addams Family

The Addams Family is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. This very talented cast took us on a journey with them as they portrayed the story of this ghoulish American family through excellent singing, acting and comedic timing. Gomez Addams played by Qyle Lander was strong in both his acting and vocals and was well matched against Amly Lieder in the role of Morticia Addams. All principals were appropriately cast and each one of them performed to a very high standard. We saw the eccentricities of Uncle Fester portrayed by Ryan Flay through his strong acting and singing and the ability to tell his story. The role of Wednesday Addams played by Rhona Maitland was well executed and she has a strong vocal ability which shone through in the role. Every one of the principals performed to a high standard and none of the comedy in the show was missed.      

While the venue is not specifically designed for full scale musicals, with its limited room on and off stage, the director used her creativity to ensure we were treated to a show with high performance values displaying a freshness in the production that stood out. The set, while simple, was extremely effective, and once the lighting, sound and the use of the performance accompaniment recording had been added, the show flowed from scene to scene with ease. Costumes and make up were well done and the ancestors certainly looked and acted the part. The singing and harmonies were strong, and choreography stylised to suit the production. As always, bringing a production of this scale together requires the commitment from many people and Lochaber Showstoppers are very fortunate to have a dedicated team who have worked hard to ensure their society goes from strength to strength following the threat of closure in 2022. The company worked together for nine weeks to bring The Addams Family to the stage, and I know they were extremely dedicated in their approach, and it paid off. Thank you and well done!
