I hadn't seen the television programme or the show before so didn't know what to expect, but was soon drawn into a very enjoyable evening by the two ancestors in white costume and white make-up welcoming us to the show.
Damien Ross played the Latino Gomez Addams to perfection - he kept the accent up all through the show - which isn't easy when everyone around you is speaking with an American accent. Lizzie Yoxall as Morticia Addams was excellent (so different from her leading lady roles in Gilbert & Sullivan!) and the two of them made a perfect match made in "hell", I suppose you could say. Antonia Santos-Cropper (Wednesday Addams) and Tey Kamal (Pugsley Addams) kept in character all the way through the show. Pugsley's singing of "Honor Role" and the duet with Wednesday were excellent - definitely a young guy to watch! Uncle Fester (David Jefferson) certainly had the looks and mannerisms and played the part to its full effect. Last but not least, Grandma Addams (Helen Kempton) had the audience laughing from the moment she walked on the stage. What can I say about Lurch (Ray Hawkins) - was loved all the way through - his grunts were certainly understood by the audience and he came into his own at the end of the show! Philip Smith (Mal Beineke) Carol Wibberley(Alice Beineke) and Ashley Wilson (Lucas Beineke) played their characters with committment. The ensemble was excellent - the individual white costumes certainly helped portray "past" family members.
Congratulations to David Phillips and Katy Robinson on a well produced show. Gavin Usher and the nine piece orchestra produced a very good sound. The professional lighting design certainly brought something different to the Montgomery Theatre and the basic set with excellent props all worked very well together.
Well Done!
